Analogous VS Monotone (clarification)

Please forgive the very creepy looking in-progress shots of some color practices I'm currently working on but I often forget that non-artists don't quite speak the same language as me or can envision the things I explain. Here are examples of monotone and analogous color schemes. The first gnome, the purple one, has monotone skin. It's still quite flat and resembles plastic more than skin. The second gnome, the turquoise one, has yellow highlights and blue shadows to create an analogous color scheme. It's much more round, deep and lively.
